Co-Head Coach Brad Voss

Brad is into his second tour as head coach of the Marlins.  He has been a coach with the Marlins continuously since 1986 doing two tours as assistant coach.  During this time, Brad has coached countless state, zone, and national qualifiers.  Many of these swimmers have gone on to excel in college programs to include an Olympic trials qualifier and Open water gold medalist in the World Championships.   Brad is married to Pam, the Marlin meet director, and has three children, Erin, Lauren and Jeff.  Erin and Lauren are past Marlins and Jeff is on the current roster.

 

Co-Head Coach Mike Owensby

Coach Mike brings a wealth of Marlin experience with him having swam with the Marlins from age 6 thru 18. Mike has been coaching the Marlins since 1987. To present, he has coached over 13 National Teams, which involved more than 40 different athletes, many of which have received athletic scholarship awards. With the opening of the new pool at L’Anse Creuse North in 2001, Mike was selected for the Head coaching position for both boys and girls where he has coached Division and Dual Meet Champions teams. His proudest accomplishments has been seeing 8 of his teams win sportsmanship awards, and 2 teams win the Bronze Award for academic excellence.

 

Assistant Coach Liz Barrett

Liz swam for the Marlins from the age of 11-17. While with the Marlins, Liz qualified for State every year with the exception of her first year on the team. She participated and placed at the Great Lakes Zone Championship meet in both individual and relay events. Liz also swam for Henry Ford High School, qualifying for the Macomb County Championship meet in numerous events and for MHSAA State in the 50-yd freestyle. Liz lifeguards and teaches swim lessons at L'Anse Creuse North High School. She attends Oakland University where she is majoring in Health, Wellness and Injury Prevention with a minor in Exercise Science. Liz is very happy to be rejoining the team and looks forward to working with the Marlin Family and enjoying a great swim season!

Assistant Coach Katie Harrigan

Katie has been a swimming competitor for 13 years on various club teams, including 4 years at Portage Northern High School, where she was a high school state qualifier , and 3 years at Wayne State University, where she holds numerous Wayne State University records, including 100 and 200 Backstroke.  She is a 5-time All-American at Wayne State.  This is Katie's third season as an assistant coach with the Marlins where she has coached numerous state, zone, and national qualifiers.   Katie also coached the Huntington Woods community swim club during the summer and is thoroughly enjoying the conversion from swimmer to coach, and is continuing to learn as much as she can about the sport of swimming.

Assistant Coach Lisa Jackowiak

Lisa was a Marlin swimmer from 1989 to 2002. State Qualifier numerous times as well as State Champion. Also qualified and placed at Greak Lakes Zone championship. Swam for L'Anse Creuse North High School and qualified for County Championship three straight years. She teaches swim lessons and swim clinics at L'Anse Creuse North HS. Graduated from Adrian College with a bachelors degree in exercise science pre-physical therapy. Played soccer for the Adrian soccer team. Currently pursuing a doctorate at Oakland University in physical therapy. She is thrilled to be back with the Marlins as a coach.

 

Assistant Coach Karl Klomp

Coach Karl has rejoined the Marlin family after a storied career as a Marlin swimmer himself.   Karl was a Marlin record holder both as an individual and as part of relays in numerous events.  Karl was primarily a freestyle sprinter and has the distinction of being the first Marlin to every qualify for YMCA Nationals in an individual event.   Karl has taught swim lessons at Fraser High School for years and brings a wealth of knowledge and common sense coaching to the Marlins.  Karl's has two children swimming for the Marlins, Jacob and Alexandra.  Coach Karl is the second member of his family to coach for the Marlins. His brother Kurt coached the Marlins for a number of years in the mid to late 1980s.

Assistant Coach Kevin Knoblach

Kevin is a former Marlin swimmer who swam with the team from 1992 to 2001. In his years with the Marlins, he was a multiple qualifier in both State and Great Lakes Zone meets. Kevin was a State Champion in the 100 backstroke in 2001. Kevin currently attends Wayne State University, and is in his final year, majoring in special education. This is Kevin’s second year coaching the Marlins.
